Africa Business Communities brings this interview with Jay Rossouw, Financial Director for Swagefast Ltd., South Africa.

What is Swagefast (Pty) Ltd.?
Swagefast first entered the South African market in 1994. Since then, we have built up our reputation on delivering quick response and reliable service which is backed by value-added after-sales support.
Swagefast is a leading supplier of complete fastening systems, including a range of standard and industrial fasteners, bearings, belting, Swagelok® products, Swagebolt pins and collars, installation equipment and spares, as well as specialized fasteners designed to customer specifications.

In what industries does Swagefast operate?
We classify ourselves under Manufacturing/Wholesaler. We supply to the Mining, Engineering, Transportation, Railway, Aviation, Construction, Petrochemical and Energy Sectors.

Why was Swagefast started?
Swagefast was started up due to the founders realizing a gap in the market as an alternate supplier, as there was only one manufacturer back in 1994 for the Swagebolt pin and collar market.

How can Swagefast be located?
Our head office is located in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, but the company has satellite branches in the Free-State, Northwest, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga and Kwazulu Natal Provinces.

Who owns Swagefast and how is it financed?
The company is owned by two major shareholders as well as a third shareholder which is the Swagefast Umsebenzi Trust, an employee ownership scheme.
Swagefast is financed by means of shareholder capital as well as banking finance.

What Swagefast do that other companies cannot?
We are a customer-oriented business that values good relationships with customers. We maintain this by offering high-quality products that are innovative and easy to use.
We are ‘big enough to deliver, small enough to care’ and are passionate about resolving challenging and complex applications.

What does Swagefast need to be able to grow?
As with any business, a stable and growing economy which attracts local and foreign investment is always a positive when considering growth.

What are your ambitions in terms of (international) markets and growth?
We aim to become recognized as an international player by expanding into Sub-Saharan Africa. As we grow, we will ensure that quality standards remain high.
